About the Role

Alta Bates Medical Center, part of Sutter Health, is seeking a Staff Nurse II – Labor & Delivery to provide exceptional patient care in a dynamic acute care environment. The registered nurse will be responsible for assessing patient needs, coordinating care, and delivering high-quality nursing services for mothers and newborns during labor and delivery.

This role involves collaborating with physicians, healthcare professionals, and patient families to ensure safe, compassionate, and personalized care. The nurse will develop and implement individualized care plans that consider physical, emotional, cultural, and social factors affecting patient health.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to mothers and newborns in the Labor & Delivery unit

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans

• Educate patients and families on childbirth, postpartum recovery, and newborn care

• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure effective care coordination

• Monitor maternal and fetal health using advanced fetal monitoring techniques

• Maintain accurate medical records and follow hospital policies and industry standards

• Support a positive patient experience through effective communication and compassionate care

Education Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing (Required)

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience required

Licenses & Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – California State License

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

• Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification

• Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM) certification

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of labor and delivery patient care procedures

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced healthcare environments

• Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams

• Part-Time (28 hours per week)

• Evening Shift – 8 hours

• Variable schedule

• Every other weekend required

• Onsite role at Alta Bates Medical Center
