🔎 Forensic Medical Coder Job Overview
The Forensic Medical Coder is a certified coding professional with expert-level knowledge in both front-end and back-end physician coding. This role focuses on:

Conducting root cause analysis of coding trends

Identifying documentation improvement opportunities

Providing internal and external coding education

Supporting coding optimization projects

Ensuring compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines

📝 Key Responsibilities

Perform root cause analysis of front-end and back-end coding issues

Lead or support coding improvement initiatives

Provide provider education and develop training materials

Research and advise on new service line coding requirements

Stay current with payer guidelines, NCCI edits, and coverage determinations

Assist with coder training and mentorship
-
Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks

Participate in coding meetings, audits, and compliance reviews
🎯 Required Qualifications
-
Minimum 4 years of medical coding experience (5 preferred)

Strong experience in physician coding (front-end and back-end)

Expert knowledge of:

ICD-10
-
CPT
-
HCPCS
-

Experience with EPIC and coding software tools

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Required Certification:

CPC (AAPC) OR

CCS (AHIMA)
Dual certification preferred.
